Our Mission
The Family Services Division of the Charles County Department of Social Services is committed to protecting vulnerable children and adults, strengthening families, and promoting safe, stable, and permanent living environments. Through prevention, intervention, and supportive services, the division partners with families and community organizations to improve safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency while preserving families whenever safe and appropriate.
Services We Provide
Child Protective Services
Investigates reports of child abuse and neglect, assesses child safety, and connects families with the services and supports needed to ensure children remain safe in their homes and communities.
Family Preservation & In-Home Services
Provides intensive in-home support to families at risk of child removal, focusing on strengthening family functioning, building protective factors, and keeping families together whenever it is safe to do so.
Foster Care
Recruits, licenses, and supports foster families who provide safe and nurturing temporary homes for children who cannot safely remain with their own families while services are arranged.
Adoption
Works to find safe, permanent, and loving adoptive families for children who cannot return home, supporting families throughout the adoption process to achieve lasting, positive outcomes for children.
Adult Protective Services
Investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable adults, and arranges protective services to ensure their safety, well-being, and right to self-determination.
Ongoing Case Management
Provides structured, long-term support and monitoring for children, adults, and families to help them achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and lasting positive outcomes over time.
