Antidote Southern Maryland is a two-day conference to inform, educate, and equip the residents of Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s Counties about human trafficking and its impact upon our region.
Human trafficking is considered modern-day slavery. Traffickers generate between $39-44 billion annually at the expense of innocent children and young adults who are abducted and sold into the sex trade. The average age of a trafficking victim is 14, and Southern Maryland is a documented thoroughfare for trafficking activity.
We are aggressively addressing human trafficking and its impact upon the Southern Maryland region. The safety of our children and young adults requires that we take the lead to:
- Make our region less attractive to traffickers.
- Inform and educate both parents and children of the presence and danger of trafficking activity; and
- Take initial steps toward sustainable solutions.
All families, caregivers, law enforcement, spiritual leaders, service providers, educators, counselors, clinicians, and anyone passionate about safeguarding our community against this social atrocity; you are encouraged to attend. This event is meant for you.
Day trainings and workshops will be provided at the Charles County Department of Social Services at 200 Kent Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to present on topics including but not limited to:
- Effectively Navigating the Current 21st Century Family Service Model for Victims and High-Risk Children
- Pathways of Trauma
- Mental Health & Addiction
- Transitioning from Survivor to SurThriver
- Law Enforcement Training
All sessions are open to all registrants. Please register at EventBrite if you plan to attend.
